If you want to analyze, share, or use your running workout data in another app, the best solution is to download a GPX file. GPX is a universal format that contains precise information about your running route, time, and pace. There are several ways to download your running workout data in GPX format. In this article, we’ll show you how to do this using the Strava and Garmin apps so you can use them to calculate your fitness test results.
What are Strava and Garmin Connect?
Strava is a popular workout tracking app that lets you record data from your runs, bike rides, and other sports. You can also compare your results with friends and other users, participate in challenges, and discover new routes. To sign up for Strava, visit Strava.com or download the app from your smartphone’s app store.
Garmin Connect is a training platform for Garmin device users where all workouts and activity data recorded with Garmin smartwatches and devices are automatically synced. You can sign up for Garmin Connect on the website connect.garmin.com or download the app from your smartphone’s app store.
How do I record a running workout?
To record a running workout with Strava or Garmin:
- Strava: Open the Strava app on your smartphone, tap “Record,” and then tap “Start.” To end the workout, tap “Stop” and save the workout.
- Garmin: Use your Garmin smartwatch or device, select “Running” as the sport, and start your workout. After your run, stop the activity and save it; it will then automatically sync with Garmin Connect.
If you’re taking our 3,200-meter run test, make sure your run was at least 3,200 meters long. That’s roughly 2 miles. You don’t have to worry about having to run at full speed right when you start the workout. Our program takes the fastest 3,200-meter segment of your workout and records that time as your test result. So you can start the timer and warm up, and when you’re ready, run at least 3,200 m (2 miles) as fast as you can.
